Katie Moravec Named NESCAC Performer of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior Katie Moravec (Chico, CA) was named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for taking home the individual title at the ECAC Championships held at Williams College this past weekend. Moravec becomes the third member of the Amherst women’s team to earn Performer of the Week honors this year.
The Lord Jeffs placed second at the ECAC Championships thanks in large part to Moravec’s time of 23 minutes and three seconds in the six-kilometer race. A fellow Amherst runner came in just one second later to place second individually, but the third-place runner did not cross the finish line until seven seconds after Moravec did.
Moravec kicked off the 2007 season with a runner-up finish at the Amherst Invitational to lead the Jeffs to first place as a team. In two other 6k races this year, Moravec finished with times of 23:53 (Williams College Purple Valley Classic) and 23:50.76 (NESCAC Championships), as she was able to shave nearly 47 seconds off of her conference championship time to place first this past weekend.
The Lord Jeffs, who have not placed lower than second this year, return to action Saturday, Nov. 10 for the NCAA Regional Championships at Conn. College.
