2009 Field Hockey Milestones

TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Earned a 2-0 win over then-top-ranked Bowdoin College in the 2009 season opener
  • Defeated then-fourth-ranked Trinity College its first loss of the season in the regular season finale (1-0)
  • Defeated then-10th-ranked Middlebury College on Oct. 10, 4-2
  • Ranked No. 13 in final NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll
  • Posted a 12-5 record to mark the highest season win total since 2001
  • Became fifth team in program history to win at least 12 games
  • Placed at least two members on the All-NESCAC First Team for the first time since 2001
  • Went on a 6-game winning streak from Oct. 8 to Oct. 30
  • Posted a 6-3 NESCAC record to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament
  • Earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships to mark the program's fourth appearance and first since 2000
  • Hosted and defeated Husson University, 3-0, in NCAA opening round to mark first NCAA Championship victory since 1999
  • Finished tied for 3rd in the NESCAC in shutouts (6) and fourth in goals per game (3.00), goals-against average (1.41) and penalty corners per game (8.88)
  • Earned 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award for having a team G.P.A. above 3.0

Senior Midfielder Hayley Douds

  • Named to NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team
  • Named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad
  • Named to NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Team
  • Scored three goals in a 4-2 win over nationally-ranked Middlebury
  • Scored 10 goals with 1 assist for 21 points as Amherst's third leading scorer
  • Finished tied for 2nd in the NESCAC in game-winning goals (5), tied for 8th in goals and tied for 13th in points
  • Finished career with 24 goals and 7 assists for 55 points
  • Class of 2010 posted a record of 38-25 in four years (best since Class of 2004, 45-20)
  • Class of 2010 became first to never experience a losing season since Class of 2002
