Joining the Amherst coaching staff for the 2010 season is Andrew Cooper, a 2008 graduate of Central Connecticut State University. Cooper is a native of London, England, where he was a three-sport athlete at Twyford Church of England. He also competed for Hayes FC and Colliers Wood FC, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors with each club. Cooper spent summer training periods with Ghana’s Liberty Professionals and Accra Hearts of Oak in 2001 and 2004, as well as team trial periods with England’s Queen Park Rangers FC and Fulham FC.

Cooper was a standout defender for the Division I Blue Devils, helping lead them to the program’s first-ever Northeast Conference title by scoring the lone goal in the championship game as a senior captain. In recent years he developed his own clinics with youth in Connecticut, known as “Cooper’s Clinics.” He has served as a trainer and coach at several camps and clinics since 2005, also volunteering as an assistant coach with his alma mater. Cooper holds D and E coaching licenses and plans on completing his C license by the summer of 2011. At Central Connecticut, he earned his degree in exercise science and health promotion.
