Rules - Fall 2012
All games will be played on Gooding Field (the turf field west of the football field).
There will be two co-ed leagues: Intermediate and Advanced.
The home team must wear white to the game. The away team must wear dark. If this does not occur, pinnies will be required.
Teams must have 8 roster players present at game time in order to avoid forfeit, and up to 11 players may participate at a time for either side (if either team has fewer than 11 players, both sides will play with teams of that size). If neither team has 8 roster players at the start of the game, it is a double forfeit and the game will not be counted towards the standings. If one team fails to have 8 roster players, that team forfeits the game. When a forfeit occurs, the competing teams can choose to play anyway, though the result will not count towards the standings (the forfeit is still in effect). The teams can then redistribute players, play a man down, and/or pick up non-roster players. Nine players will be the minimum for all playoff games.
Any team that forfeits two or more games will be automatically disqualified from the playoffs. This applies to both leagues. Requests to reschedule games will not be accommodated except under extremely rare circumstances. The earlier a change is requested, the more likely it is to be granted.
Regular season games will be played on all seven days of the week and last roughly one hour (two 25 minute halves with a short halftime). The playoffs will have overtime and penalty kicks, but regular season games may end in a tie. Please be on time for the games. At least 8 players must be present prior to the game’s start time or it will be considered a forfeit.
All games will be officiated by an IM referee. He or she has the final say on any questionable decisions, and any call made is non-negotiable.
Fouls and violations will be called by the referee. All standard soccer rules apply (unless otherwise noted). Although yellow or red cards should not be necessary, the referee has the right to caution or eject any player for any reason during the game.
Cleats and shin guards are not required, though they are certainly allowed.
Players must be on their own team’s roster to play, and no player may be on more than one roster in the same league. Not knowing is not an excuse. This will result in penalties for the offending teams.
Teams may pick up players to add to their rosters up until the end of the fourth week of the season. However, they must officially register prior to the first game in which they participate. Add players to your roster by following the instructions on the main intramural page and signing in to amherst.athleague.com.
Playoffs will follow the regular season. Additional information will be sent out before the playoffs begin.
Teams will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. Tie-breakers will be (in order):
- Total Wins
- Goal Differential (Forfeits will count as a 3-0 victory)
- Goals Scored
- Goals Allowed
- Coin Toss
Champions will have their team name engraved eternally on the Players’ Ball.
Games will be played rain or shine. However, in the case of severely inclement weather or if the fields are deemed off limits by the athletic department, that day’s games will be rescheduled and the captains will be notified as soon as the information becomes available.
All participants are expected to display courtesy and sportsmanship toward all opponents and referees.
Regular season schedules will be sent out to the captains at the beginning of the season. Adjustments will be sent out as needed. Additional copies will be available on the Bulletin Board in the back entryway to Alumni Gym and online on the intramural website.
Standings and announcements will be sent out to the Captains weekly. They will also be available on the Intramural Website.
