Fourteen Track Student-Athletes Named to All-NESCAC Team

HADLEY, MA – Fourteen Amherst student-athletes recently earned all-conference accolades following the completion of last weekend’s NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships held at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
The top three finishers in each event during the championship receive all-league praise, with nine members of the men’s team taking home All-NESCAC honors, while five student-athletes earned recognition on the women’s side.
Leading the Amherst men with three all-conference selections is junior Ben Scheetz (Lancaster, PA), who captured individual titles in the both the 800 and 1,500-meter run, while leading the Lord Jeffs’ 4x400-meter relay team to a second consecutive NESCAC crown.
Joining Scheetz on Amherst’s first-place 4x400 team were senior Tommy Moore (Marlborough, MA), junior Andrew Reed (Riverside, CT) and first-year Matt Melton (Wall, NJ), who also earned all-league honors for a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
Seniors Will Yochum (Goleta, CA) and Steven Corsello (Skaneateles, NY) and sophomores Pat Grimes (Mansfield, MA) and Eli Howe (Concord, NH) were named to the all-conference team by virtue of their third-place showing in the distance medley relay, while senior John McGrail (Arlington, VA) rounded out the list of all-league selections with his individual title in the 5,000-meter run.
Junior Melissa Sullivan (Dallas, TX) and sophomore Keri Lambert (Amherst, MA) headlined the women’s group of all-conference picks with the duo earning recognition in a pair of events, including the Jeffs’ third-place 4x800-meter team alongside teammates Lauren Almeida ’ 13 (Reading, MA) and Amy Dao ’14 (Boxborough, MA).
Sullivan also placed second in the 1,500-meter run, while Lambert took home honors as the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Christina Wong (Honolulu, Hawaii) captured all-conference accolades with her second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.
