Date Set for "Friends of Jaclyn 5K Race"

AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College will host the fourth annual Friends of Jaclyn 5K Race on Sunday, Apr. 15 in an effort to raise money and awareness for the organization.

The primary goal of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors. Amherst and dozens of colleges across the country have adopted children as honorary members of their athletic teams, inviting them to practices, games, and team functions in an effort to involve the adoptees and their families as much as possible.

Roughly 250 runners gathered at Amherst College for last year’s Friends of Jaclyn 5K Race, an event run by student-athletes with 100 percent of the profits and donations going to the foundation. This year’s event will once again feature athletic teams from the region, but all members of the local community are encouraged to take part. Registration will begin in Alumni Gymnasium on Sunday, Apr. 15 at 11 a.m. with a suggested donation of $5. Food, refreshments, t-shirts and prizes will be available.

More information about Friends of Jaclyn is available on the foundation's website. A recap of the first three FOJ 5K Race events can be found at the following links: 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11.
