AMHERST, Mass. – Eighty Amherst College student-athletes were recognized when the NESCAC announced its 2011 Fall All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship teams, as the Lord Jeffs led the conference with 78 All-Academic honorees.

The All-Academic Team is reserved for sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

Twelve of Amherst’s All-Academic honorees were also named to the All-Conference Team for their respective sports. Standing out are Kevin Ferber ’12 (football), Jill Kochanek ’12 (women’s soccer), Spencer Noon ’13 (men’s soccer) and Matt Rawson ’12 (football), who were named to the All-Academic and All-Conference First Teams, as well as to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Notably, Noon was named the 2011 NESCAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Year.

Earning both All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship honors from Amherst were Alec Jacobson ’12 (men’s cross country), Stephanie Clegg ’12 (field hockey), Alex Butensky ’13 (men’s golf), T.J. Kelley ’12 (men’s soccer), Allison Dorey ’12 (women’s soccer) and KC Kanoff ’12 (volleyball). Rounding out Amherst’s All-Sportsmanship honorees are Lauren Almeida ’13 (women’s cross country) and Doug Gebhardt ’12 (football).

Members of the All-Sportsmanship Team exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents and spectators. They display sportsmanship not only as a participant in their sport but also as a spectator and in their everyday lives. Through their positive actions and example, these student-athletes inspire others to adhere to the quality of sportsmanship that the NESCAC and the NCAA endorse.

Amherst’s All-Academic honorees are listed below. The complete All-Sportsmanship and All-Academic teams can be found on the NESCAC website.
