Oct. 12-13 - Women’s Volleyball entered its Senior Night match-up with rival Middlebury with a 3-3 league ledger. The Panthers meanwhile had hopes of tying Bowdoin and Williams atop the conference standings with a big road win. In the early going, it was all Jeffs with the home team racing out to a 2-0 lead. Middlebury answered by taking the next two sets, but Amherst held on with a dramatic 15-12 victory in the tiebreak behind first-year Lizzie Ahern’s 19 kills. The following afternoon the Jeffs looked to again knock off one of the NESCAC’s elite with archrival Williams paying a visit to LeFrak. Hoping to avoid the upset, the Ephs took the first set 25-21, but Amherst continued to ride the wave of momentum from the night before taking the next three frames, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 led by first-year Sammy Newby’s career-high 13 spikes.
