WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Amherst College men’s cross country team placed five runners inside of the top 30 scorers Saturday as the Lord Jeffs claimed second place at the 40-team James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park. Charlie Reighard ’14 led the way for Amherst with an 18th-place finish in 26:46.52 while Dillon Buckley ’13 was close behind, placing 19th with a time of 26:54.72.
In a strong showing of depth, the Jeffs rested their top six finishers from last weekend’s Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. and still managed to trail only Middlebury in the team competition. The Panthers cruised to victory, placing four of the top five runners for 23 points, while Amherst (111 points) and Connecticut College (140) completed the top three.
Following Reighard and Buckley, Dan Crowley ’16 was the next Jeff across the line, placing 21st in 27:03.07. Romey Skiar ’15 (27:14.43) and Patrick Grimes ’13 (27:15.42) rounded out the Amherst scoring, placing 26th and 27th, respectively.
Jack Davies of Middlebury paced the 430-runner field, winning in 25:40.96. Conn. College’s Mike LeDuc took second in 25:45.15.
The Jeffs return home for their next action, hosting the Little Three Championship on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 12:45 p.m.
