Crowley Paces Jeffs at UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. - The Amherst men’s cross country team opened its 2013 season at the UMass Invitational placing sixth overall.
Sophomore Dan Crowley paced the Jeffs, finishing fourth in a field of 65 Division I harriers, edging out Boston College’s Brian McDavitt with a time of 19:29.75. Maine’s Kelton Cullenberg took home the top individual honor with a time of 19:15.25, followed by University of Connecticut’s Michael O’Donnell (19:22.90) and teammate Alexander Moser (19:26.99).
KC Fussell ’15 also put forth a strong showing for Amherst, coming in ninth overall with a time of 19:36.44, while first-year Raymond Meijer was impressive in his collegiate debut, clocking in at 20:05.56. Senior Alvaro Morales was the fourth Jeff to cross the finish line with a time of 20:10.35, while Jeff Seelaus ’16 finished the 6,200-meter course in 20:15.19.
Tri-captain Gus Greenstein ’14 broke into the Purple & White’s top seven finishers with a time of 20:22.07, while rookie Kevin Connors factored into the scoring thanks to a time of 21:01.62.
UConn captured the team title with a score of 63. Maine took second (69), followed by host UMass (70) to round out the top three. Boston College (85) placed fourth, with Vermont (90) and Amherst (100) coming in fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the University of Southern Maine Invitational.
