Jeffs Finish Third at ECAC Championships

BRISTOL, R.I. - With three runners placing in the top-15, the Amherst men’s cross country squad placed third out of 46 teams at the 2013 ECAC Division III Championships.

Gus Greenstein ’14 led all Amherst harriers, placing ninth overall with a time of 26:20.81. Less than five seconds later, Kevin Connors ’17 crossed the tape, finishing 11th in the field of 327 runners with a time of 26:25.54. Ben Fiedler ’17 rounded out the Jeffs’ trio in the top-15, clocking in at 26:28.21.

Also turning in an impressive performance, Jeff Seelaus averaged a 5:21.3 mile, narrowly edging out Colby’s Andrew Estrada for 18th place. Romey Sklar ’15 completed the 8k Colt State Park course in 26:55.04, while Jesse Fajnzylber ’17 and Sam Wohlforth ’17 wrapped up Amherst’s list of competitors with times of 27:25.85 and 28:45.41, respectively.

With its runners taking the top three spots, led by individual champion Cole Townsend (25:43.08), Williams took home the team title with 26 points. Tufts finished second (75), followed by Amherst (84), Colby (141) and Middlebury (175) in the top five.

Bates (188) ensured the NESCAC took hold of the top six slots, with Coast Guard (244), USMMA (247), Keene State (273) and University of New England (311) closing out the top-10.

Amherst returns to action at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 16.
