Ali Simeone Named NESCAC Performer of the Week

HADLEY, MA – Amherst College first-year Ali Simeone (Stoneham, MA) was named the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week this afternoon for her effort during the Lord Jeffs’ team victory at the Keene State College Invitational this past weekend.

Simeone joins senior teammate Sophia Galleher as the only Lord Jeff runners to be named NESCAC Performer of the Week this season on either the men’s or the women’s side. The last time an Amherst first-year took home the honor was in October of 2007 when Will Yochum ’11 was named the Men’s Performer of the Week.

Saturday at Keene State, Simeone completed the 5k race only two seconds behind the runner-up with an impressive time of 19:01, which was good enough for fourth place overall and second place among her teammates. The Lord Jeffs placed first in the field of 12 schools to mark their second team victory of the season.

Simeone’s performance at Keene State marked the second consecutive race she had finished with Amherst’s second fastest time. In her second race of the season, she placed 21st against Division I competition at the UMass-Amherst Invitational.

The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Oct. 10 when they travel to Boston for the New England Championships at Franklin Park.
