Women's Cross Country Finishes Sixth at Williams

AMHERST, MA - Keri Lambert '13 was the runner-up at Saturday's Purple Valley Invitational, as the Amherst women's cross country team placed sixth in a field of 15 at Williams.
Last year’s individual champion, Lambert nearly pulled off the repeat, clocking in with a time of 21:55, but was legged out over the final two 200-meters by Middlebury’s Addie Tousley ’13 (21:50).
Despite several Jeff harriers running their first 6k, Amherst put forth a strong showing, with Lauren Almeida ’13 and Lizzy Briskin ’14 each cracking the top-30 in a field of 215. Almeida placed 27th with a time of 23:23, while Briskin crossed the tape in 23:24.
Sarah Daly ’13 also enjoyed a strong showing finishing in 23:52, while Lexi Sinclair ’16 turned in a time of 24:03. Fellow first-year Caroline Rose ’16, built on her solid performance at last week’s season opener at UMass, factoring into the scoring with a time of 24:09, while Betsy Black ’16 handed in a time of 24:18.
Williams took home the top team honor with 78 points and an average time of 23:03, while MIT (83) and Middlebury (87) placed second and third, respectively. Oberlin came in fourth (121), followed by Tufts (137), Amherst (156) and NYU (160).
Ohio Northern finished eighth overall (199), with Division I Fordham (254) and Colby (265) rounding out the top-10.
Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Westfield State’s James Earley Invitational.
