Jeffs Take 4th at Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Amherst women’s cross country team ran to a fourth place finish at the Purple Valley Classic Saturday hosted by Williams College. The Jeffs finished with 133 points in the 13-team field and were led by Savanna Gornisiewicz ’17.
Gornisiewicz’s consistently solid first-year campaign continued Saturday with a time of 23:38.7 to pace Amherst and finish 25th overall out of 159 runners. Finishing shortly after was Elizabeth Briskin ’15. The junior placed 29th in the meet with a mark of 23:45.8.
Lexi Sinclair ’16 and Sophie Currin ’17 finished third and fourth respectively. Sinclair posted a time of 23:46.6 while Currin ran the final 1200 meters faster than anyone on the team to finish in 23:56.4.
Rounding out the top-seven performances for the Jeffs were Betsy Black ’16, Amy Dao ’14 and Jessica Kalisk ’15. Black ran 16 seconds faster than her time at last year’s event and posted a mark of 24:02.2. Dao and Kaliski also improved their time from a year ago. Dao finished 12 seconds faster in 24:16.3 and Kaliski cut 37 seconds off her time from last year with a mark of 24:22.3.
Middlebury won the event with 38 points followed by MIT and Williams with 43 and 46 respectively. Amherst and Colby (133) rounded out the top-five.
The Jeffs prepare for the NEICAAA on October 12.
