Lowdon Paces Jeffs at Little Three Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Catherine Lowdon ’17 finished 12th overall to lead the Amherst women’s cross country team to a second-place showing at the Little Three Championships hosted by Wesleyan University.

Taking the first 11 slots, Williams turned in dominating performance, winning the event with a team score of 15. Kaleigh Kenny ’14 led the way with a time of 18:32.2, followed by teammates Shayna Barbash ’14 (18:42.5), Molly Belk ’16 (18:49.6), Hannah Cole ’17 (18:53.8) and Lacey Serletti ’17 (18:54.7).

Lowdon was the race’s top non-Eph finisher, clocking in at 19:15.9, good for 12th overall. Sophie Currin ’17 narrowly edged out teammate Amy Dao ’14, with the duo separated by just five tenths of a second. The first-year took 15th with a time of 19:25.7, while the senior followed at 19:26.2.

Betsy Black ’16 came in 17th overall with a time of 19:27.4, with Lizzy Briskin ’15 rounding out the Jeffs’ scoring five with a time of 19:29.8. Jessie Kaliski ’15 was the sixth Amherst runner to finish, clocking in at 19:31.3, while Savanna Gornisiewicz ’17 and Caroline Rose ’16 posted ties of 19:36.1 and 19:37.2, respectively. Lisa Walker ’14 closed out a pack of eight consecutive Jeff finishers, placing 22nd in the field of 63 with a time of 19:41.5.

As a team, Amherst secured 54 points to lock up second-place, while host Wesleyan, with just one harrier in the top-25, took third with a team total of 79.

The Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Connecticut College.
