Women's Cross Country Finish Eighth at New England Championships

PORTLAND, ME - The Amherst women's cross country team claimed eighth overall at the 2013 NCAA Division III New England Championships on Saturday, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.

Williams won the event with 44 points followed by Middlebury with 57 and MIT in third with 127 points. Tufts (134) and Brandeis (168) rounded out the top-five with Bates (197), Colby (201) and Amherst (258) claiming sixth through eighth to give the NESCAC a total of six top-10 finishers in the 53-team event.

Lizzy Briskin '15 led the Jeffs, pacing the team with a time of 22:17.65 to claim 36th overall in the 371-person field. Finishing seconds later was Caroline Rose '16 with a mark of 22:28.55 to earn 44th.

Catherine Lowdon '17, Jessie Kaliski '15 and Betsy Black '16 also finished in under 23 minutes to round out the top-five performers for Amherst. Lowdon placed in 22:35.89 to claim 52nd overall, Kaliski recorded a time of 22:38.87 and Black crossed the finish line in 22:55.73 to take 72nd overall.

Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 and Sophie Currin '17 rounded out the list of Amherst competitors, clocking in at 23:00.46 and 23:14.99, respectively.

Amherst returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 23 for the NCAA Division III Championships at 12 p.m.
