Amherst Shut Out by Colby for Fifth One-Goal Loss of Season

Senior tri-captain Kathleen Boucher made 11 saves for Amherst, but the Lord Jeff offense could not come through against Colby.

WATERVILLE, ME – The Amherst College field hockey team dropped yet another close game to Colby College, 1-0, to fall to 6-5 (2-4 NESCAC) on the season. All five of the Jeffs' losses this year have come by one goal, including four with a 1-0 result. With the win, Colby improves to 3-8 (1-6 NESCAC) on the season.

Colby College senior midfielder MaryClaire McGovern picked a good time to score her first collegiate goal, as the she provided the game’s lone goal to lift the Mules to a 1-0 victory. McGovern scored unassisted with 21:10 left in the first half on a play that started off a penalty corner.

Jamie Enos made eight saves for Colby, while senior tri-captain Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) was credited with 11 stops for Amherst. The Jeffs were out-shot 16-12 on the day, with Colby also taking the penalty corner battle, 9-7.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Oct. 20 for an 11 a.m. home game with Little Three rival Wesleyan University.
