Molly Malloy Grabs NESCAC Player of the Week Award

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College field hockey junior Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) was named the NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week this afternoon for her play in a 2-0 week for the Lord Jeffs. Amherst picked up a non-conference win over Western New England College, before beating Colby in NESCAC play on Saturday.

Malloy had five goals and an assist during the pair of wins this week. After scoring three times in a 9-0 win at WNEC on Thursday, Malloy had a hand in all three of Amherst’s goals during a 3-1 win over Colby. Malloy assisted on the game’s opening score, before scoring twice later on in the contest. The 11 points were the first of the season for Malloy, who now ranks second among her teammates in scoring.

Malloy has missed four games this season due to tendonitis in her knees, and has seen limited action in a majority of her five games played in 2008. This week, Malloy seemed to rebound from the injuries with a throwback performance to what made her a NFHCA All-New England West Region Second Team selection just a year ago.

Malloy and the Lord Jeffs return to action on Thursday evening as they welcome Babson College to campus for a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
