Dudzik and Healey Earn NFHCA All Region Honors

Junior Tierney Healey made the NFHCA All-Region Second Team
for the first time in her career.
AMHERST, MA – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named Amherst senior Alyssa Dudzik and junior Tierney Healey to the 2008 New England West Region First and Second Teams this afternoon.

This marks the third consecutive year that Dudzik has landed a spot on the New England First Team, and she will be a strong candidate for a third straight All-America selection. Dudzik was also selected by the NFHCA to partake in the 2008 Division III Senior All-Star Game, which will take place Sunday, Nov. 23 at Ursinus College. In her four years at Amherst, Dudzik helped lead her team to a 31-29 record and three consecutive postseason appearances.

Joining Dudzik this season on the All-New England West Second Team is Healey, who finished second in the NESCAC in defensive saves for the second time in her three-year career. After recording five defensive saves as a first-year, Healey’s six as a sophomore led the conference before she added another five in 2008. Healey is the only player in the NESCAC to record at least five defensive saves in each of the past three years.

Dudzik and Healey join 22 other NESCAC players in filling 24 of the 32 spots on the First and Second Teams, as the conference has exploded into a national power. After last year’s national championship being played by a pair of NESCAC teams, the NCAA awarded three of this year’s six available at-large bids to the National Tournament to NESCAC schools. This weekend Tufts and Bowdoin will play in the two national semifinals with hopes of facing one another for the 2008 National Championship.

While Dudzik has played her final game for the Lord Jeffs, Healey will return as a senior leader next year with hopes of leading the team to its first ever NESCAC Championship.
