Andre Gary Named NESCAC Rookie of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year wide receiver Andre Gary (Exeter, NH) was named the NESCAC Football Rookie of the Week for his contributions to the Lord Jeffs’ 24-0 season-opening victory over Bates College. Gary is the first Amherst player to earn the honor since Aaron Rauh (Hudson, OH) was named Rookie of the Week Oct. 29, 2006.
Gary caught four passes for a game-high 58 yards in his debut as a Lord Jeff, including back-to-back catches for first downs late in the first quarter to bring his team to the Bates three-yard line, setting up Amherst's second rushing touchdown of the day. Gary also made a 25-yard completion late in the second quarter to bring Amherst to the Bates 18-yard line, as well as a nine-yard reception in the third quarter.
Gary is part of a very young and talented Amherst receiving core that is capable of making an immediate impact on the team. The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. for their season opener with Bowdoin College.
