Aaron Rauh Named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College sophomore running back Aaron Rauh (Hudson, OH) was named the NESCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs to a 28-9 win over Little Three rival Wesleyan University. Amherst out-gained the Cardinals 256 to -15 on the ground, with Rauh accounting for 103 yards on 20 carries.
Rauh capped off Amherst’s first drive of the game with a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Jeffs an early lead, and closed out the scoring in the first half with a 55-yard scamper into the end zone to put his team ahead, 23-3. The Jeffs’ ensuing 2-point conversion gave them a 22-point lead heading into halftime.
Through the first five games of the season, Rauh leads his team in rush attempts (99) and rushing yards (427), while his six rushing touchdowns and 85.4 yards-per-game average both place him second among running backs in the conference. Amherst has the best rushing offense in the NESCAC, as the Jeffs are piling up 185.2 yards per game.
The Lord Jeffs return to action next Saturday for a crucial game at Tufts University, who also stands at 4-1 on the season. Two NESCAC teams will improve to 5-1 next week and two will fall to 4-2, as Middlebury (4-1) and Trinity (4-1) colleges will also do battle next week with a conference crown in sight.
