Amherst's Vetras Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

Alex Vetras '11 was named the NESCAC
Offensive Co-Player of the Week today.

AMHERST, MA – The New England Small College Athletic Conference named Amherst College senior quarterback Alex Vetras (Bellevue, WA) the Football Offensive Co-Player of the Week this afternoon for his play in yesterday’s 38-7 win at Bowdoin. Vetras had a career day for the Lord Jeffs, as Amherst won its 10th straight game with Vetras as the starter dating back to last year’s season opener.

Against the Polar Bears, Vetras completed 26-of-38 passes (.684) for a career-high 340 yards. The senior captain connected on three touchdown passes on the day, setting a career-high there as well. Vetras’ 340 yards through the air is the most by an Amherst player since the 1997 season finale, a stretch of 97 games. Yesterday was also the first time Vetras passed for over 300 yards in a game during his career.

Vetras finished yesterday’s game with a passer efficiency rating of 169.63, completing passes to seven different receivers without throwing an interception or being sacked.  With Vetras at the center of the Amherst offense, the team leads the conference in scoring (41.0 ppg), pass efficiency (159.9) and turnover margin (+4).

Through two weeks, Vetras has amassed 505 yards of passing, with five touchdowns with just one interception. Next weekend, Vetras and the Jeffs will head to Middlebury to take on the 1-1 Panthers at 1 p.m.
