AMHERST, MA – Amherst College juniors Matt Rawson (Bethesda, MD) and Kevin Ferber (Mahwah, NJ) have been named to the D3football.com All-East Region Team, the website announced yesterday. Ferber earned a First Team selection as a defensive tackle, while Rawson landed on the Second Team as a punter.

Ferber and Rawson are the eighth and ninth Amherst players to earn D3football.com All-Region recognition since the award was introduced in 2005, with Ferber becoming the third Lord Jeff named to a First Team. This year the East Region honored 77 players, who were selected in balloting by sports information directors and D3football.com staff.

Of the 77 honorees from the East, only seven hail from the NESCAC. The conference’s only player to join Ferber on the defensive side of the ball is Trinity cornerback Harry Melendez ’11, who was named to the Second Team. Landing on the First Team were offensive players Shea Dwyer ’11 (Wesleyan), Nick Seara ’11 (Wesleyan) and Chris Hunt ’11 (Trinity), while quarterback Pat Moffitt ’11 (Williams) was honored on the Second Team.

A finalist for the Fred Mitchell Award, Rawson had already earned an All-Region nod from the New England Football Writers, also taking home NESCAC All-Conference and All-Academic honors and two NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week awards. He averaged 36.9 yards per punt in 40 attempts this season, pinning the opposition inside the 20 on 19 occasions. He was also an elite place kicker, leading one of the best special teams units in the conference.

Also an All-NESCAC First Team selection, Ferber finished the season ranked second on Amherst in total tackles (59), while leading the team in sacks (5.5), passes broken up (6) and fumble recoveries (2). Ferber also finished the year tied for the team lead in tackles-for-loss with 8.5. His 5.5 sacks were the second highest total in the conference, giving him 12.5 for his career.
