SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Michael Aldo ’13 was named the NESCAC Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Jeffs to a hard-fought 17-9 victory over Little Three rival Wesleyan University.

Recording eight tackles (3 solo), Aldo forced a fumble that led the Jeffs’ first score before also coming down with an interception late in the fourth quarter to help Amherst notch its 10th-consecutive win over the previously unbeaten Cardinals.

Facing third-and-7 from their own 29-yard line, Jesse Warren ’15 found Jay Fabien ’15 on a swing pass to the left side. Turning upfield, Fabien picked up 11 yards and looked to have a first down, but Aldo stripped the ball near the sideline, giving the Jeffs the ball back at the 40. Five plays later on second-and-13, Jake O’Malley ’14 took a Jonathan Pieterse ’16 screen pass 30 yards into the end zone to put Amherst up 7-0.

With Amherst clinging onto a 17-9 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth, Aldo came up with another big play. Dropping back on third-and-3 from the Wesleyan 21-yard line, Warren had a pass batted in the air, allowing an alert Aldo to come down with his first career interception. Running nine plays, the Jeff offense ran 3:39 off the clock, helping the visitors protect the lead.

On the season, Aldo ranks among the team leaders in tackles (22, 11 solo), with three pass breakups and the squad’s only two forced fumbles.
