SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Junior kicker Jake Schmidt has been named the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week after accounting for eight of the team’s 20 points in a loss to Trinity on Jesse/Miller Field.

Connecting on a pair of field goals, Schmidt also finished 2-of-2 on point after attempts as the Jeffs carried a 20-12 lead over the undefeated Bantams into the fourth quarter. Becoming the third Amherst player to be recognized on the conference’s weekly honor roll, he joins cornerback Robbie Heflin ’13 and safety Mike Aldo ’13, who garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades earlier this season.

Capping off a 15-play, 52-yard drive midway through the first quarter, Schmidt connected on a 29-yard field goal to give the Jeffs and early 3-0 margin. After bookending a Max Lippe ’15 touchdown run with a successful PAT that put Amherst back on top, Schmidt closed out his afternoon by converting a 33-yarder with 5:08 left in the third quarter to make it 20-12.

On the season, Schmidt is 8-of-10 on field goal attempts, going 3-for-3 inside of 30 yards. With a long of 37 yards, he is also 5-for-7 on attempts between 30-39 yards.
