AMHERST, Mass. - Senior defensive back Robbie Heflin has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.
In order to be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 and have significant athletic credentials. First team honorees across eight districts are automatically considered for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Heflin joined six other NESCAC representatives on the District I first team. Middlebury led all conference institutions with four selections, while a pair of Williams’ players earned recognition. Colby and Amherst each placed one student-athlete on the All-District squad.
Enjoying a breakout season, Heflin earned conference Player of the Week honors after nabbing three interceptions, including one for a touchdown, in a 23-3 victory over Colby. Also hauling in a pick the week prior against Middlebury, he capped off an impressive three-game stretch with a fumble recovery in a 17-9 win over Wesleyan.
Making a season-high six tackles against Bowdoin, Heflin has recorded 26 stops on the year (19 solo), with five breakups. Playing an integral role in the NESCAC’s third-ranked pass defense (166.1 ypg), Heflin currently sits tied for fifth in the league in both interceptions (4) and pass breakups (5).
Also excelling in the classroom, the history has been twice named to the NESCAC All-Academic team.
