CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Senior offensive lineman John Ceccio added to his growing list of postseason accolades with a selection to the 2012 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team.
One of 28 players from 18 teams honored, Ceccio joined six other NESCAC representatives on the list, with league champion Trinity and runner-up Middlebury each garnering three awardees.
A staple in the Jeffs’ lineup since arriving in 2009, the center helped Amherst to a 28-4 mark in four seasons en route to a pair of conference championships. Earning his third-consecutive first team All-NESCAC selection this season, he helped anchor one of the league’s best running attacks that averaged 191.0 yards per game.
Averaging more yards on the ground every season since 2009, the Jeffs posted the squad’s highest rushing average since 2005 (209.0), gaining at least 200 yards on three occasions, including a season-high 376 yards against Hamilton. During his tenure, the Jeffs also topped the league in fewest sacks allowed three times (2009, 2010, 2011).
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Montvale Plaza, in Stoneham, Mass. Those interested in attending should contact Dick Lipe at Bentley University at 781-891-2334.
