Jeffs Place Sixth at Trinity Invitational
Sophomore Nate Belkin finished in third place
individually at the Trinity Invitational today.
HARTFORD, CT - The Amherst College men's golf team wrapped up play at the two-day Trinity College Invitational this weekend, shooting a 318 at the Shuttle Meadow Golf Club. In yesterday's opening round, the Jeffs posted a 319 at Black Ledge Golf Club. Amherst's two-day total of 637 (+61) was good enough for sixth place in the seven team field, while sophomore Nate Belkin (Needham, MA) shot a two-over par 146 for third place individually.
Babson College won the event, posting a 304-296-600 for a five stroke win over both Trinity College (308-297-605) and Susquehanna (305-300-605). Bentley University and Nichols College each edged Amherst, while NESCAC and Little Three archrival Wesleyan University finished in seventh place.
Belkin was topped by just two players, and finished in a three-way tie for third place with a very impressive 73-73-146. Junior Trip Wray (Walpole, MA) finished in a four-way tie for 12th place, shooting a 77-76-153. Amherst's third finisher was rookie Alex Butensky (Farmington, CT) in 33rd place with an 82-84-166. Matt Parsons (Wilmette, IL), Ben Johnston (New York, NY) and Mike Belkin (Needham, MA) finished in 41st, 42nd, and 43rd place respectively.
Amherst will travel to play at NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College next weekend for a two-day tournament at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA.
