MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst College men's golf team wrapped up play this afternoon at the 26th Annual Duke Nelson Invitational Tournament at Middlebury College's Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Lord Jeffs rose two spots within the field of 21 teams to finish in 13th place overall.

Amherst posted a two-day total of 661, or 93-over par. After a 329 in yesterday's opening round, the Jeffs shot a 332 this afternoon to close out the tournament. Salem State took home the team title with a two-day 606 to edge Trinity College (CT) and Middlebury for the crown.

The Lord Jeffs were led by sophomore Nate Belkin (Needham, MA) and junior co-captain Trip Wray (Walpole, MA). Belkin shot a 78-79-157 to lead Amherst and edge Wray by just one stroke. After shooting an 82 on Saturday, Wray blazed the course for a team weekend-best 76 on Sunday.

Rookie Alex Butensky (Farmington, CT) shot an 86 on Saturday, before shaving three stokes off his game for an 83 on Sunday. Sophomores Mike Belkin (Needham, MA) and Matt Parsons (Wilmette, IL) provided the final scores for Amherst with two-day scores of 180 and 183, respectively.

Amherst will have a week off before heading to Williams next weekend for the 2009 NESCAC Championship Qualifier. Next weekend's tournament will determine who is awarded All-NESCAC honors, and also the teams who will compete in the spring for the conference title.
