Lord Jeffs Place 14th of 18 at Worcester State

WORCESTER, MA – The Amherst College men's golf team placed 14th in a field of 18 schools at the Worcester State University Invitational this afternoon. The Lord Jeffs were led by Alex Butensky '13 (Farmington, CT), who finished 21st among the 86 golfers.

Salem State junior Nick Zolotas fired a 69 (-3) to capture individual medalist honors and help lead the Vikings to this year’s team title, as they finished with a score of 313 (+25) on the par 72 Blackstone National Golf course.

After Salem State, the other top five finishes included Western New England College (318, +30), Endicott (326, +38), UMass Dartmouth (328, +40) and Trinity (328, +40). Nick Jagoe of UMass Dartmouth came in second with a card of 74 (+2), followed by Endicott sophomore Jackson Wyman’s score of 75 (+3) in third. Steve LeDonne of Johnson and Wales and Henry Fall tied for fourth with a 76 (+4).

Butensky finished at nine over par to lead the Jeffs, followed by first-year Nicholas Koh (Singapore) at 12 over (42-42-84). Mike Belkin ’11 (Needham, MA) shot a 41 on the front nine and would finish at 87 (+15), while Jared Kusma ’13 (New Albany, OH) rounded out Amherst at 19 over par (44-47-91).

The Lord Jeffs will return to action this Saturday when they head to Williams College for the two-day NESCAC Spring Opener.
