Amherst Places Fifth at NESCAC Spring Opener

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Amherst College men’s golf team placed fifth at the NESCAC Spring Opener, which was shortened to a one-round, 18-hole tournament on Sunday after inclement weather closed Taconic Golf Club on Saturday.  

Middlebury’s Jim Levins used an impressive 32 on the back nine to win the individual crown with a 71, leading the Panthers to the team title (301). Williams was close behind at 303, followed by Trinity (313), Hamilton (318), Amherst (327) and Wesleyan (345).

Amherst’s Nate Belkin ’12 (Needham, MA) and Nicholas Koh ’14 (Singapore) each shot an 81 to tie for 22nd place, while Mark Colp ’12 (Wareham, MA) and Alex Butensky ’13 (Farmington, CT) followed with an 82 and 83, respectively. Mike Belkin ’11 (Needham, MA) placed 34th (41-47-88), while Erik Hansen ’14 (Deephaven, MN) rounded out the Lord Jeffs with a 91.

Amherst will return to Williamstown this Wednesday to take part in the Little Three Championships.
