Jeffs Place Second at Mt. Holyoke; Milbourn Wins Title

SOUTH HADLEY, MA – Amherst College junior NGCA All-American Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) opened up her 2009 season in style, winning the 34th annual Mount Holyoke College Invitational individual title this weekend, while leading the Lord Jeffs to a second place team result. A total of 15 teams and 81 individuals participated in the tournament, which was hosted by The Orchards Golf Club (par 72 – 5,880 yards).

Saint Lawrence recorded a team score of 643 (322, 321) en route to the championship, with Amherst (655 – 324, 331) and Williams College (667 – 332, 335) rounding out the top three. Fairfield University (670) and the State University of New York at Cortland (697) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

For the second time in three years, Milbourn took home top individual honors after posting a two-day total of 154 (78, 76). She entered the second round trailing St. Lawrence's Kristin Berretta by a pair of strokes, but overcame the deficit by carding a tournament-low score of 76 today.

Amherst first-year Liz Monty (N. Granby, CT) finished tied for 8th place individually with an 80-83-163. Sophomore Elaine Lin (Clarksville, MD) also earned a top-15 finish with an 81-86-167 for a share of 13th place individually.

Sophomore Laura Monty (N. Granby, CT) finished in a tie for 20th individually with an 85-86-171, while senior Alex Chang-Graham (San Carlos, CA) finished in 64th place with a 95-107-202.

Amherst will head to NESCAC rival Middlebury College next weekend for a two-day tournament at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
