Amherst Wins 2009 Williams Fall Classic & NESCAC Tournament

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Host Williams College fired the best round of the two-day Williams Fall Classic (323), but was only able to slice four shots off the 8-stroke day one lead established by the Amherst College women's golf team. The Lord Jeffs won the one-day 2009 NESCAC Women's Golf Tournament on Sunday with a 328, before holding on for Fall Classic title on Monday.

Amherst won the two-day event with a team score of 655 to edge Williams (659) and SUNY Cortland (686). Middelbury’s Flora Weeks was the medalist in the event closing out today ith a 78 to go with a first round score of 77 for a 155 total. Following Weeks was a pair of Lord Jeffs to round out the podium.

Senior captain Kinne Schwartz (Allen, TX) finished  second individually with a 78 today, after shooting a first round of 80 (158) on Sunday. Junior Hayley Milbourn (Balitmore, MD) tied for third with a two-day 163, while sophomore Elaine Lin (Clarksville, MD) tied for seventh (166).

Rookie Liz Monty (N. Granby, CT) finished in a tie for 17th place individually with a 92-81-173, while Nina Yoo (Duluth, GA) tied for 20th place (87-91-178) to round out the scoring for Amherst.

Today's win is the second consecutive team victory for the Lord Jeffs following last weekend's effort at the 2009 Middlebury Invitational. The Lord Jeffs will look to make it three in a row next weekend when they travel to play in the Wellesley Invitational.
