Milbourn Takes Home Mount Holyoke Invite Title to Place Amherst Fifth

First-year Hayley Milbourn shot a 155 to claim her second individual title in as many weekends.

SOUTH HADLEY, MA – The Amherst College women’s golf team took part in the Mount Holyoke College Invite this weekend. After two days of competition, first-year sensation Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) stood out above the rest of the pack to take her second individual title in as many weeks, with the Lord Jeffs placing fifth as a team.

The lowest score of day one belonged to Milbourn, who shot an impressive 76 on a par-72 course. The Amherst first-year had very little breathing room, however, as Courtney Mazzei of Middlebury shot a 77 on the first day, while Mary Gelber of Williams and Allison Hamilton of Boston University each shot 78.

Despite being the only player in the final top eight to shoot a higher score on her second day than on her first, Milbourn’s two-day total of 155 was good enough for the win, with Gelber right on her heels at 156 and alone in second place. This marks the second consecutive tournament in which Milbourn has earned a one-stroke victory, as she finished just one shot ahead of Harvard’s Ali Bode in last weekend’s Dartmouth Invitational.

Amherst was only three shots behind the University of Hartford and tied for fourth place after day one, as the Jeffs shot a 344 to match Williams’ day-one total. Hartford shot an impressive 325 in day two, however, and the Ephs were close behind with 326, leaving Amherst with the fifth-place finish.

Sophomore Kinne Schwartz (Allen, TX) shot an impressive 81 on day two, finishing tied for 25th place at 169. Senior captain Ali Berman (Boca Raton, FL) and first-year Alissa Korpi (Chaska, MN) were close behind at 175 and 179, respectively, while sophomore Alexandra Chang-Graham (San Carlos, CA) shot a 193.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Oct. 6 for a tournament at Williams College.
