Hayley Milbourn Named to NGCA All-America Team

CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) announced last week the 2008-09 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division III Women’s Collegiate Golf. Amherst College sophomore Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) was recognized this past weekend at the NGCA Awards Banquet in Port St. Lucie, Florida, for being named to the 2009 All-America First Team and All-East Region Team.

This is the second consecutive year Milbourn has earned NGCA All-America First Team and All-Region honors. This year she joins Wesleyan University’s Lindsey Haines (Second Team) and Middlebury College’s Courtney Mazzei (Honorable Mention) as the lone NESCAC golfers to earn All-America status.

Milbourn was also named the 2008 NGCA Division III Freshman of the Year for winning five individual titles and finishing as the runner-up in two others during her debut season. Her sophomore campaign was just as impressive, as she won three events and placed in the top five on four other occasions.

After winning the Middlebury Invitational in the fall, Milbourn caught fire in the spring to place in the top seven in her first six events, including a pair of wins and a pair of second-place showings. In Amherst’s five team victories this season Milbourn never placed lower than third, as she was often the driving force behind the Lord Jeffs’ success.

At the national championships this past weekend, Milbourn finished with Amherst’s best score for the ninth consecutive match, tying for 15th place individually to lead the Jeffs to 13th place as a team.

The NGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
