Women's Golf Opens Season With 11th Place Finish

HANOVER, N.H. – The Amherst College women’s golf opened up its 2010 fall season this weekend competing at the Dartmouth Invitational. With completion taking place at the Hanover Country Club, the Lord Jeffs finished in 11th place among the field of 20 teams from Division I, II and III.

This weekend’s two-day event was played on a par-72 course that registered 5,807 yards. The Lord Jeffs shot a 339 on Saturday, but shaved 10 strokes off their score (329) for a two-day total of 668. Boston College took the team title with a 611, while only Williams College (6th place, 658) and Wellesley College (9th, 663) beat Amherst out of the Division III entrants.

Leading Amherst for the weekend was Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) with an 83-80-163 to finish in 28th place individually. She was followed by Elaine Lin (Clarksville, MD) with an 84-81-165 in 34th place. Sophomore Liz Monty (N. Granby, CT) finished in 45th place with an 83-84-167. Rookie Sooji Choi (Corona, CA) finished in 71st place with an 89-84-173 in her collegiate debut, while junior Nina Yoo (Duluth, GA) placed 74th (89-85-174) to round out the scoring.

Amherst will remain close to home next weekend, taking on a field of Division III squads at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. Play will take place at The Orchards in South Hadley, with action from September 25-26.
