Jeffs Take Third at Williams Spring Invitational

Liz Monty '13 led all Amherst golfers, finishing seventh with a two-day total of 165.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Led by junior Liz Monty’s (North Granby, Conn.) two-day 165, the Amherst women’s golf team closed out its regular season slate with a third-place finish at the Williams Spring Invitational.

Posting a first round 80 on the par 71, 5,827-yard Taconic Golf Course, Monty turned in an 85 on day two, to finish seventh in a field of 40 golfers. Irene Hickey ’13 (Glencoe, Ill.) shaved four strokes of her first day 87 en route to a two-round total of 170, while Sooji Choi ’14 (Corona, Calif.) turned in a two-day 173 (84-89), finishing tied for 16th.

Laura Monty ’12 (North Granby, Conn.) took three strokes off her first round 89 during the second day of competition (175-89-86), while Elaine Lin ’12 (Clarksville, Md.) rounded out the list of Jeff competitors with a two-round 179 (85-94).

With three golfers finishing in the top-five, host Williams took home the top team honor thanks to a two-day 652 (321-331). Individual champion Flora Weeks (159-78-81) led a Middlebury squad that placed second with a 662 (333-329), while Amherst rounded out the top three, posting scores of 336 and 343 (679) during the two-day event.
