AMHERST, Mass. - Liz Monty ’13 carded a two-day score of 157 to lead the Amherst women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Vassar College Invitational.

Just four shots off the pace set by Williams’ Georgiana Salant ’14 with a three over par 75 on day one, Monty turned in an 82 over the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for third. First-year Devyn Gardner, who sat in a tie for fifth after Saturday’s round with a 79, also struggled this afternoon, falling into a tie for 14th after shooting an 87.

Irene Hickey ’13 totaled a two-day tally of 175 (82-93), while Sarah Ressler ’16 shaved a stroke off her first round total with an 88 on Sunday. Kristen Lee rounded out the list of Amherst competitors with a two-round score of 178 (84-94).

Despite needing eight more strokes to get through the 5,805 course on the second go-around, Salant held onto her lead atop the individual leaderboard with a two-day 150. Teammates Becky Miller ’13 (161), Shelby Shote ’15 (165) and Paige Whidbee ’15 (166) all finished in the top-15 as the Ephs took home the team title (637).

NESCAC rival Middlebury placed second (644), followed by NYU (659), Amherst (670) and Ithaca (671) in the top-five. Host Vassar came in sixth (676), with Wellesley (724) and St. Lawrence (733) in seventh and eighth, respectively. Mount Holyoke (808) was in ninth, while William Smith (809) and Union (1004) rounded out the field of 11.
