WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Kristen Lee ’14 and Liz Monty ’13 each shot a two-day 170 to lead the Amherst College women’s golf team to a third-place finish out of seven teams at the Williams Spring Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Taconic Golf Club.
After placing third with a combined 350 on Saturday, the Jeffs totaled 347 Sunday for a two-day 697, just enough to hold off fourth-place Vassar (700). With a strong second day, Williams (644) ran away from Middlebury (672) for the team title as the Ephs' Georgiana Salant took home individual medalist honors with a pair of 77s for a two-day 154.
Taconic continued to provide a tough challenge for the golfers on the second day of competition with difficult greens becoming quicker as wind picked up throughout the day. Still, Monty recovered from an uncharacteristic 90 on Saturday as she carded an 80 for Sunday’s third-lowest individual round. Lee meanwhile, carried the team on Day One, turning in an 83 before her 87 on Sunday tied her with Monty for ninth overall.
Devyn Gardner ’16 was the next Jeff on the table, carding a pair of 89s to finish tied for 19th at 178, while Irene Hickey ’13 (88-91-179) and Sarah Ressler ’16 (95-114-209) placed 21st and 37th, respectively. Scoring as an individual, Jenny Xu ’16 (90-93-183) tied for 25th overall.
The event marks the conclusion of Amherst’s regular season schedule and the final weekend of local play for seniors Hickey and Monty. The team will await a potential invitation to the NCAA Championship, set to be held in Port St. Lucie, Fla. May 14-17.
