Monty Leads Jeffs at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Liz Monty '13 finished four shots off the pace set by Williams’ Georgiana Salant to lead the Amherst women’s golf team during the first round of the Middlebury Invitational.

Firing an 82, Monty currently sits tied for fifth in a field of 50 golfers. Sooji Choi '14 tied for seventh after day one, carding an 83, while Irene Hickey '13 tied for 11th with an 87. Devyn Gardner '16 handed in a first round 91, while Katherine Britt '15 wrapped up the list of Amherst competitors with a 93.

Led by Salant’s seven over par 78, Williams, which had three other golfers rank in the top-10, came in first after round one with a total tally of 328. Middlebury, which saw two of its players finish in the top-five, currently sit second with a 338, followed closely by Amherst (343).

Vassar finished fourth after the first 18 holes with a score of 348, with Bowdoin (398), Mount Holyoke (412) and Hamilton (414) coming in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Bates (453) placed eighth, while Union (531) and Westfield State (540) rounded out the field of 10.
