NESCAC Names Taylor Downs Player of the Week
Senior tri-captain Taylor Downs totaled two goals and a pair of assists last week for the Jeffs.
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior tri-captain Taylor Downs (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) was named the NESCAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week this afternoon for his role in a pair of Amherst wins. The Jeffs defeated Curry College, 5-0, Thursday night before toppling Bates College on the road, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.
After playing last season as a defender for the Jeffs, Downs was given the green light this season by new head coach Justin Serpone. The revamped Amherst attack has benefited no one more than Downs.
Against Curry, Downs scored the second goal of the game off a beautiful feed from classmate Kevin Dolan (Peabody, MA). Downs did the extra work on that night, making a run to the far post where he was rewarded with an easy finish.
Downs followed up with a four-point performance at Bates on Saturday. The striker returned the favor to Dolan in the fourth minute against the Bobcats, before dishing out his second assist of the day to classmate John Kneeland (Holden, MA). Downs capped off his day with a goal of his own in the 76th minute.
This marks the second time Downs has grabbed NESCAC Player of the Week honors, repeating from his sophomore year this very week. The Jeffs return to action Saturday when they travel to face Tufts University at 1:30 p.m.
