Duker's Hat Trick Leads Amherst to Victory at Suffolk
Senior Jake Duker's hat trick lifted Amherst to a 7-0 win over Suffolk University.
Duker’s three goals brought his season total to seven, while first-year Jae Heo (Changwon, South Korea) netted a pair of goals for the second consecutive game and added an assist. The Lord Jeffs took 33 shots in the game, 18 of which were on goal, while Suffolk took seven shots and forced senior Jeff Grover (Framingham, MA) to make five saves in the shutout.
Duker’s first tally gave the Jeffs a 1-0 lead after just four minutes and 41 seconds of action, with seniors Joe Addison (Midlothian, VA) and Rory O'Connor (West Boylston, MA) picking up assists on the play. Sophomore Ian Rothkopf (Harvard, MA) followed up with a goal nearly 30 minutes into the half, but that would be all of the scoring Amherst would muster up in the first 45 minutes.
Heo opened the scoring in the second half with an unassisted goal at 54:36 and Duker followed less than six minutes later on a penalty kick to give the Jeffs a 4-0 advantage. Amherst rallied for three goals in a span of less than four minutes midway through the second half, with Heo assisting Duker, junior Matt Lewis (Wayland, MA) assisting Heo, and sophomore Ryan Conti (Rochester, NY) assisting first-year James Mooney (Princeton, NJ) to close out the scoring on the evening. Mooney’s goal was the first of his career.
The Lord Jeffs return to action Saturday, Sept. 27 when they head to Bowdoin College to resume their NESCAC schedule before kicking off a five-game home stand.
