Lennard Kovacs Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

Kovacs

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year goalkeeper Lennard Kovacs (Wolfersdorf, Germany) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs to a pair of shutout victories last week. This marks the Jeffs’ second Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honor this year and the first by an Amherst first-year since 2003.

Kovacs posted a pair of shutouts last week, the first two of his collegiate career, and lowered his goals against average to a NESCAC-best 0.23 during the Lord Jeffs’ 2-0-0 week. After needing to make one save in Tuesday’s 1-0 overtime win against Springfield College, Kovacs stopped six shots in a crucial 3-0 victory over Tufts University on Saturday.

Kovacs also leads the NESCAC in save percentage (.938), as he has stopped an average of 3.0 shots per contest. With his two shutouts last week, Kovacs has now played 299 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal. The last time a team managed to beat the first-year keeper was Saturday, Sept. 13 when Middlebury found the back of the net in the eighth minute of regulation.

Sharing the weekly honor with Kovacs is Trinity College senior goalkeeper Zachary Trudeau.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 when they host Connecticut College at 4 p.m. on Gooding Field.
