From a NESCAC release

AMHERST, MA - After scoring his first and second collegiate goals in his first game for the Amherst College men's soccer team on Saturday, first-year Spencer Noon (Farmington, CT) added another first to his quickly growing list of accomplishments; NESCAC Player of the Week.  Noon propelled the defending NESCAC Champion Lord Jeffs to a 2-0 victory on Saturday at home against Bowdoin, coming off the bench and scoring both Amherst goals.

Noon’s first collegiate goal came in the 67th minute, and proved to be the game-winner. He added an insurance tally in the 83rd minute. Noon buried the game's opening goal off a feed from Henry Rouse (Birmingham, AL), after settling the ball off his chest for a full volley. His second goal came on a rebound, after Chris Linsmayer (Denver, CO) forced Bowdoin's goalie into a diving save.

This marks the second year in a row that Amherst has had a forward grab an early-season Player of the Week award. Jake Duker '09 was named the NESCAC's top performer for the week ending September 22, 2008.  Additionally, this is the second consecutive season that an Amherst rookie has earned Player of the Week honors, following Lennard Kovacs '12 selection on October 6, 2008.

While Duker has graduated from Amherst, Kovacs has returned in top form, playing all 90 minutes against Bowdoin to earn his first shutout of the season. Noon posted two goals in his NESCAC and collegiate debut, while no other NESCAC team was able to score more than a single tally over the weekend.

Amherst will face off against non-conference foe Bridgewater State College on Wednesday night, under the lights of Gooding Field at 6 p.m.
