eight games played this year.
From a NESCAC release
AMHERST, MA - Amherst College junior goalkeeper Lennard Kovacs (Wolfersdorf, Germany) was named the NESCAC Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week this afternoon. Kovacs recorded back-to-back shutout wins in net for the Lord Jeffs this week, as the team improved to 6-2-0 (3-2-0 NESCAC) on the year.
Kovacs earned NESCAC Co-Player of the Week honors last year as a rookie on Oct. 6, before sharing this week's spotlight with Trinity's Peter Marlette. Kovacs' Player of the Week award last season was the first time in five years that an Amherst rookie earned the award.
This week, Kovacs posted a shutout win with seven saves in a 1-0 victory over Framingham State College. Kovacs was called on a handful of times to make diving saves on shots that each looked destined to steal a result from the Lord Jeffs. Following the win over Framingham, Kovacs made four saves to preserve a 3-0 shutout win over NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Saturday.
Kovacs' back-to-back shutouts bring his total to five in just eight games this season, with his current scoreless streak growing to 199:31. After posting nine shutouts as a first-year, Kovacs has recorded a clean sheet in 14 of his 26 collegiate starts for the Lord Jeffs.
Kovacs and the Lord Jeffs will lay their shutout streak on the line tomorrow night when they travel to face Elms College at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
