Six Lord Jeffs Earn NSCAA All-Region Honors
KANSAS CITY, KS – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the 2010 Performance Subaru Division III All-Region teams today, selecting five Amherst College men’s soccer players and one player from the Lord Jeff women’s team for All-New England honors.
Additionally, both the Amherst men’s and women’s teams once again earned spots on the Team Academic Award lists for registering cumulative grade point averages above 3.0 as a team.
Earning First Team honors this season on the men’s side were senior Ian Rothkopf (Harvard, MA) and sophomore Spencer Noon (Farmington, CT). Juniors Lennard Kovacs (Wolfersdorf, Germany) and James Mooney (Princeton, NJ) and senior Chris Skayne (Boxborough, MA) also earned Second Team honors. For the women’s team, junior defender Jill Kochanek (Pittsburgh, PA) was named to the First Team.
With their First Team All-Region selections, Rothkopf, Noon and Kochanek each remain eligible for NSCAA All-American honors in the upcoming weeks.
Today’s award is not the first for any of these Lord Jeffs, with five of the six having earned 2010 All-NESCAC honors as well earlier this year. Kovacs was left off the All-Conference Teams, but was named to the prestigious ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America team in November.
After earning a pair of All-Region honorees last season, the men’s team burst onto the scene this year with five selections. Only NESCAC rival Middlebury College had more selections (6) to the West team in 2010. For the women’s team, Kochanek earned Second Team All-Region honors as a sophomore last fall, before being elevated to the top team in the region this season.
