Amherst Welcomes Back Undefeated 1960 Team
The undefeated 1960 team joined the current team on Hitchcock Field.
AMHERST, MA - On September 25th, the Amherst College men’s soccer team continued its early season success. The Lord Jeffs beat NESCAC rival Connecticut College to push their overall record to 4-0-2, and remain unbeaten at 1-0-2 in conference play.
It was a special day not only because Amherst won, but because Amherst had the opportunity to honor the 1960 Amherst men’s soccer team. Prior to the game, a group of 10 individuals from the squad were honored at midfield for their courageous and humble efforts during the 1960 season. The 1960 team is the only side in Amherst men’s soccer history to go undefeated, with an unblemished record of 6-0-2.
After the game, the members of the current team and 1960 team got together for a tailgate and spoke about memories and stories of Amherst men’s soccer. It was a great honor for the coaches and players of the current team to host the 10 honored guests and their families.
Amherst would like to thank the members of the 1960 team who were present: Co-captain Roger Pennington, Hugh Andrews, Jim Guest, Robin Mahar, Jim Noyes, Ed Packel, Nick Prigge, Bill Strong, Tony Scholnick, & Fred Woodworth.
