HADLEY, Mass. – Helping the Amherst men’s soccer team to a pair of wins over Bates and 18th-ranked Middlebury, sophomore Jae Heo (Changwon, S.Korea) tallied seven points on three goals and an assist en route to NESCAC Player of the Week honors.
Returning from a two-year absence after completing a mandatory military service requirement in his native South Korea, Heo raced out of the gates and netted the squad’s first goal of 2011 in a 3-0 season-opening shutout of Colby-Sawyer.
Heo then began this week’s slate of games with three points against Bates, first assisting on a goal by Federico Sucre ’13 at 10:34. With Amherst leading the Bobcats 2-0 in the 53rd minute, Heo buried an unassisted goal that stood up as the game winner in the Jeffs' 3-2 triumph.
Heo closed out his week by tallying a pair of scores in Amherst’s big 3-0 shutout of 18th-ranked Middlebury. He netted the game’s first goal off a free kick in the seventh minute, before slotting the Jeffs’ third marker inside the right post at 82:08.
As a first-year in 2008, Heo appeared in 21 games and helped lead the team to a national semifinals appearance, while registering 28 points on 12 goals and four assists.
Amherst, now 4-0-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in NESCAC play, returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 against Hamilton College.
