Spencer Noon '13 had three goals and an assist
in a 3-0 week for the still unbeaten Lord Jeffs.
HADLEY, Mass. – Spencer Noon ’13 (Farmington, Conn.) became the second Lord Jeff to garner NESCAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors this season after helping fourth-ranked Amherst College improve to 11-0-1 (7-0-1 NESCAC) with wins over Trinity, Colby and Bowdoin.
Serving as one of the catalysts to the NESCAC’s highest scoring offense, Noon finished the week with seven points on three goals and an assist. He kicked things off by guiding the Lord Jeffs to their 13th-straight win over Trinity, heading in the game’s lone tally in the 27th minute off a Thebe Tsatsimpe ’12 (Johannesburg, S. Africa) cross.
Continuing to stand out in the squad’s shutout of Colby, Noon had a hand in all three Amherst scores, assisting on the game’s first marker before tallying a pair of goals of his own. Scoreless at the half, Noon picked up his first point when he made a run down the left side in the 51st minute and played a ball into the box, allowing Max Fikke ’14 (New York, N.Y.) to put the Jeffs on the board.
Noon then added to the Amherst cushion in the 68th minute, beating a defender to a through-ball and slotting the Jeffs’ second goal into the right side of the net. Less than 10 minutes later, Noon made a far-post run and volleyed the ball into the Colby goal to cap off the day's scoring.
With only two regular-season games to go, Noon currently leads the NESCAC in points (21) and goals (9), while sitting tied for sixth in assists with three. In his first three seasons Noon has tallied 69 points on 29 goals and 11 helpers.
Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 against Wesleyan, with the winner securing the top seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship.
