NEW YORK – The Amherst College men’s soccer team enjoyed some rare red-carpet treatment while networking with program alumni at Wednesday’s Major League Soccer match between the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City.
Arranged through Red Bull General Manager and Amherst soccer alumnus Jerome de Bontin, the Lord Jeffs watched the contest – a 1-0 win for Kansas City – from the club’s ownership suite at Red Bull Arena, meeting face-to-face with Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh as well as current Red Bull midfielder and former Everton star and Australian international Tim Cahill.
The evening’s primary function, however, was the chance for the Amherst student-athletes to network with approximately 20 New York area alumni pursuing various professional careers after their tenures in Purple and White.
“This was an incredible opportunity for our team to connect with alumni,” said head coach Justin Serpone. “There are a lot of people who have gone on to do remarkable things after their Amherst soccer careers.”
In the midst of a busy spring training schedule, the Jeffs will welcome another bumper crop of recruits to campus in August before pursuing their third consecutive NESCAC title in the fall of 2013.
